On Friday, The Bees welcomed the Knights of Nordonia into The Hive for a pivotal Suburban League National Division contest. The result was a 53-30 victory for The Bees that moved their record to 6-2 overall, and 5-0 in Suburban League play. Nordonia dropped to 3-5, and 2-3 in the league.
The Bees offense totaled 481 yards of total offense (294 rushing; 187 passing) and was led by junior QB Joe Labas, who scored 5 total TD’s (3 passing/2 rushing). On the night, Labas would complete 17/22 passes for 187 yards while also rushing for 68 yards on 7 carries.
Junior Garrett Kubitz was the leading rusher with 18 carries for 120 yards and 2 TD’s, while backfield mate, senior Ethan Hatcher rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries. Ronny Wilson (senior) had 4 catches for 97 yards and a TD and junior Jeremy Jonozzo hauled in 2 TD’s while accumulating 52 yards on 6 catches.
With the score 18-9 with time winding down in the first half, Labas connected with Jonozzo to extend the lead to 24-9. The Bees elected to go for the 2 point conversion play that was converted with junior OT Luke Kirin receiving a lateral pass from Labas and scampering into the endzone extending the lead to 26-9 at the half.
Defensively, The Bees were led by senior LB James Petkunas, who registered 8 tackles on the evening. Jonozzo also came away with a key interception in the 3rd quarter to prevent The Knights from narrowing their point deficit. The Bees run defense had its second consecutive positive outing holding The Knights run game to a total of 146 yards rushing.
This coming Friday, it is Senior Night where 18 members of the football program will be honored prior to competing against cross-town rival North Royalton for The Golden Shoe in another Suburban League National Division contest. Game time is set for 7 PM at Bees Stadium.
